Join Thanksgiving Fund Recipients

Seven Canadian post-secondary student groups have been selected to receive a $2,500 grant towards their on-campus Thanksgiving celebrations.

Think Turkey created the Join Thanksgiving Fund to give more students a seat at the Thanksgiving table and foster a greater sense of community on campuses across Canada.

TheU | StFX Students’ Union, St. Francis Xavier University, Antigonish, NS

TheU advocates for StFX University students, providing services and hosting events that foster a supportive campus community.

This Thanksgiving, in response to the financial and logistical challenges many students face in traveling home, STFXSU is proud to host “Thanksgiving for U!” – a free community meal designed to bring students together during what can be a stressful and isolating time. Held at the Student Union Building, the event will also collect non-perishable food donations for Kevin’s Corner, the Union-run food bank.

UNB Mental Health Association, University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB

The UNB Mental Health Association is dedicated to supporting students’ mental health and fostering a strong sense of community on campus.

The UNB Mental Health Association is dedicated to supporting students’ mental health and fostering a strong sense of community on campus. This Thanksgiving, the UNBMHA are hosting their first official Thanksgiving dinner for students who are unable to travel home. In addition to the turkey dinner, the event will feature activities like board games and karaoke to encourage connection, aligning with its mental health mission.

Enactus McGill, McGill University, Montreal, QC

Enactus McGill is a student-run organization committed to driving sustainable social impact through entrepreneurial action.

This year, Enactus will host its first Thanksgiving community dinner, promoting connection, inclusivity, and gratitude among students. The event offers students the chance to build supportive networks through a joyful Thanksgiving experience. Featuring a menu that reflects the diverse backgrounds of McGill’s community and a warm, welcoming atmosphere, the dinner aligns with Enactus McGill’s mission of fostering collaboration and social responsibility.

TMU StartUp Society, Toronto Metropolitan University, Toronto, ON

TMU’s StartUp Society is committed to helping students and alumni launch passion projects and ventures.

This Thanksgiving, the group will host a Thanksgiving dinner to bring together students and faculty, fostering relationship-building. The event will feature a diverse menu, festive décor and interactive activities designed to encourage cultural exchange and community bonding. This inaugural Thanksgiving dinner will kick off a new tradition, creating an opportunity for students to come together and celebrate for years to come.

University Of Windsor Peer Support Centre, University of Windsor, Windsor, ON

The University Of Windsor Peer Support Centre is a drop-in centre where students from across campus can find a supportive peer to talk to. It’s a safe and inclusive space where trained peer support volunteers offer peer counselling to students.

The centre will host a Thanksgiving dinner – a buffet style Thanksgiving meal – to help provide students far away from home with a warm and inclusive environment where they can connect with others, share in the joy of the season, and feel a sense of belonging, especially for students who may be far from home.

Brandon University Students’ Union, Brandon University, Brandon, MB

The Brandon University Students' Union, dedicated to enhancing education and supporting students through advocacy, services, and engagement, is hosting its first Thanksgiving celebration

This event aims to foster a sense of community, especially for students far from home or who may not have experienced Thanksgiving before. A diverse Thanksgiving menu, catered by the community café, will be served to over 100 students. The event will also support the ‘Campus Cupboard’ initiative, addressing food insecurity on campus, ensuring that students can enjoy the holiday while meeting essential needs.

Olds College Student’s Association and International Experience Department, Olds College of Agriculture and Technology, Olds, AB

The Olds Students' Association, in collaboration with the International Experience Department, is organizing a Thanksgiving dinner for students unable to celebrate with their families.

With an anticipated attendance of around 600 students, staff, and faculty, the event aims to provide a cultural learning experience for those far from home, while fostering a sense of community and belonging. The dinner will offer students a chance to take a break from their studies, reflect, and connect with one another, emphasizing the importance of support systems in enhancing both well-being and academic success.

University of Victoria Students’ Society, University of Victoria, Victoria, BC

The UVic Students' Society is hosting its first Thanksgiving dinner to support students who remain on campus during the holiday.

Held in the 'Wally Kitchen' residence hall, the event will provide a warm, inclusive atmosphere for both international and domestic students, to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. Alongside the dinner, there will be a movie night, and interactive activities designed to foster connection. This initiative aims to build a sense of community and offer comfort to students who may be feeling homesick during the holiday.
